I’ve sunk more hours into Hollow Knight: Silksong than I care to admit since it dropped back in 2025, and by now, I know every nook of Pharloom like my own backyard. The game is a masterpiece—gorgeous, haunting, and packed with so much challenge it’s borderline masochistic. But let’s be real: some of these bosses are just plain nasty. Not in a “wow, that’s epic” kind of way, but in a “if I saw this thing scuttling across my kitchen floor, I’d reach for the heaviest boot I own” kind of way. From kitchen nightmares to literal vomit-spitters, here are the baddies that made me want to power-wash my Switch and call it a day.

First up is Disgraced Chef Lugoli, and holy moly, this guy is stomach-churning. He’s the embodiment of a failed health inspection. Living in filth with his equally gross sous chefs, Lugoli sports a stained apron that probably never met a washing machine. The real kicker? He’s a crucial source of the infamous pickled muckmaggot. Just typing that word makes me dry heave. During the fight, he hurls sticky maggots that drain your silk and refuse to leave until you bind—and you don’t even get healing out of it. It’s like being pelted with trash while someone yells “bon appétit!” 🤢

Then there’s Groal the Great, which is anything but great. Nestled in the most obnoxious part of the map with the most annoying debuff known to bugkind, Groal spends the fight spewing bile and maggots from its cavernous mouth. One move literally swallows you whole—if that doesn’t make you want to frisbee your controller, nothing will. And the runback? C’mon. Even with the hidden bench, trekking back to this puke-fest is a drag. If Silksong ever gets a boss-rush DLC, I hope Groal gets the speedrun treatment so I can squash it quickly.

Moorwing is artificial difficulty incarnate. You face this massive fuzzy nightmare before you unlock most of your movement and combat upgrades, turning what could be a fair scrap into a hair-puller. Its claw swipes and spinning saw blades had me seeing red. Sure, you can call in Garmond and Zaza for help, but they’re about as useful as a paper umbrella in a monsoon. You can technically skip Moorwing with a flea caravan wish, but you’ll just end up tangling with it later anyway. 😤

Moving on to Nyleth, who’s more flower than bug and a real pain during the dream battles. Those pollen explosions don’t just look icky—they require parkour precision, not combat skill. Second phase? Floor vanishes, and you’re hopping over a spike pit while dodging yellow goo and massive pollen rings. I spammed the clawline hook like my life depended on it. Glad that flower is dead and wilted. 🌸💀

Savage Beastfly might look simple—two moves, dash and slam—but don’t let that fool you. The real trick is the never-ending swarm of minions it spawns. I felt like I needed Matrix-vision just to dodge everything, including contact damage from its ungainly body. And guess what? You fight it twice, and the rematch adds a sea of lava underneath you. Because why not? 🙃

The Unravelled hails from the White Ward, one of the creepiest zones in the game. The ambient cries and silk-wrapped faces already had my skin crawling, and then this giant spawns after you unlock a trap door. Its projectiles are borderline undodgeable, and the smaller enemies it summons are a nightmare. The lore behind it? Genuinely disturbing. If I could squish anything into a ball of silk and toss it in the bin, it’s this thing.

Tormented Trobbio is like Nightmare King Grimm’s annoying little cousin. First fight is manageable, but he loves cornering you with that stupid tornado move. Then act three rolls around and he cranks the spam to eleven, making me wish I’d never bought tickets to his circus. Having him repeat the same moveset for a second bout felt like a missed opportunity—and a massive headache.

Gurr The Outcast is optional, but the amount of tracking you do across void-infested territory makes him hard to ignore. His one annoying move is like a sibling spamming the same Street Fighter special. The real salt in the wound? Spiky traps plastered everywhere, turning the fight into platforming purgatory. The post-fight room with strung-up bugs is chef’s kiss creepy, though.

Crawfather is a bird-bug grandpa you stumble upon only in act three, and it summons a parade of the most obnoxious flyers in Greymoor. They dodge, they hover just out of reach, and they make your pogo-timing a nightmare. I burned more shards on tool-spam cheesing the adds here than on any other fight. 🧀

Finally, Bell Eater. You reach the fast travel station, only to find your pal Bell Beast missing and a centipede named Bell Eater in its place. The fight is 90% dodging projectiles, and you’re locked out of fast travel until you beat it. Talk about a stopgap. But when Bell Beast literally drops from the top ropes and devours the centipede, I cheered so loud I woke my dog. 🐶🔔

These bosses are vile, frustrating, and sometimes straight-up unfair. But you know what? That’s exactly why Silksong sinks its claws into you and refuses to let go. Every gross-out moment and rage-induring runback turns into a badge of honor once you land that final blow. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some bugs to squash—in-game and maybe under my desk.
